Madison Rose Lane One of 57 Schools Nationally to be Recognized as a Distinguished Title I School

PHOENIX - April 16, 2009 - Madison Rose Lane School will be honored locally on April 24 as a Distinguished Title I School by the US Department of Education.

The National Association of State Title I Directors and the U.S. Department of Education recently awarded Rose Lane the designation for successfully closing the achievement gap between student groups.

Rose Lane was one of 57 schools throughout the nation to be honored at a recent ceremony in San Antonio. Title I schools are identified as those in which more than 40% of the student population qualifies for free and reduced lunch.

“Rose Lane is humbled and honored to receive this award,” Principal Peter Morkert said. “This not only showcases the amazing things happening at Rose Lane, but the Madison District as a whole. Our fantastic students and staff are honored to be recognized for their hard work and achievements.”

To be considered “distinguished,” schools must demonstrate strengths in the following areas:

  • Opportunity for all children to meet proficient and advanced levels of performance
  • Strong professional development
  • Coordination with other programs
  • Curriculum and instruction to support achievement of high standards
  • Partnerships among schools, parents and communities

Additionally, the school’s last three years of achievement data is reviewed.

The local award ceremony takes place April 24 at 5:00 p.m. prior to the school’s Open House event. It will be held at the Rose Lane amphitheater. Madison Rose Lane is located at 1155 E. Rose Lane in Phoenix.
