Chaparral High School Junior, Ben Grossman, was the recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Young Man Award given annually by the Mayor of Phoenix for all-around excellence. In addition to outstanding academic achievement, Ben participates in

Ben Grossman

National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mock Trial, Young Democrats and the Speech and Debate team, holding officer positions in many of the clubs. He also attends Advanced Placement (AP) classes to better prepare him for college. Christine Marsh, Ben’s AP English teacher says, "Ben is one of the best writers I have. He’s incredibly bright yet he’s got that human, empathetic side to him."

Even with all his involvement in school, Ben is not just a brainiac with his head in the books, he also gives back to his community. For five years he has participated in "Relay For Life," an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. His zest for life has also lead him to learn to play the cello and participate in numerous sports and activities. He admittedly loves to make people laugh, and his friends describe him as "funny," "sarcastic," and "an over-achiever." Ben, though, is focused on his well-rounded goals of being "an effective college student and ultimately an effective member of society."
