PHOENIX-They're calling it the
L.O.V.E. - Lifting Our Voices for Education - Rally, and on Feb. 14, which is both Valentine's Day and Arizona Statehood Day, parents,
students, teachers, school board members, members of the business community and school administrators statewide will join together adjacent to the Arizona
State Capitol to share their personal stories about what public education means to them. They plan to make and bring Valentine cards with positive messages
about public education to be delivered to Governor Brewer and members of the State Legislature. Many also plan to share a message about the importance of
supporting education as a top priority in the state.
The L.O.V.E. Rally will be held on
Saturday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza, adjacent to the Arizona State Capitol, 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix. (View the rally flyer.)
The event will provide an opportunity
for supporters of public education to speak up for Arizona's children, talk about the great things
happening in our public schools and send a strong message not to balance the
pending 2009-2010 budget in a way that would result in devastating effects to the educational system.
The rally has the support of five
major statewide education organizations: Arizona Parents for Public Education (APPLE), Arizona Association of School Business Officials (AASBO), Arizona Education Association (AEA),
Arizona School Administrators Association (ASA) and the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA). Membership in the above organizations spans the entire state and all its school districts. Each of
the groups works in collaboration with K-12 public school teachers, parents, business officials, students, school board members and the community to enhance
education in Arizona and support excellence in our public schools, and all agree that Arizona's children deserve a bright and hopeful future with the support
and commitment of the
governor and the legislature.
